James finished his MA Music Performance course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2015 where was generously supported by Christopher Ball. During his time here he performed with Opera'r Ddraig and Music Theatre Wales.

He was a recipient of a student bursary with the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, with whom he worked with on many large-scale projects, including their 'BBC Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular' UK tour.

James began singing at the age of 7 taught by his mother Kate Bowers. He won multiple singing competitions including the 'Junior Endeavour Trophy' for the most promising junior performer and the 'Irene Baker Open Vocal Solo Trophy' at the Chesham Arts Festival. James represented his School in the prestigious inter Bucks schools 'Wycombe Orpheus' competition where he won the 'Instron Senior Vocal Award' 2008. James made his operatic debut aged 13 in the title role in 'Amahl And The Night Visitors' for Aylesbury Opera.

James gained his Music degree with honours from Bangor University in 2012 specializing in Performance and Composition. Whilst at Bangor James was a recipient of a three-year choral scholarship and was a member of the elite 'Early Music Vocal Ensemble' taking part in many concerts both as a soloist and chorally, and took the roles of Monostatos 'Magic Flute', Valleto /Soldier 1 'L'incoronazione di Poppea' and Nemorino (cover) 'L'elisiir D'amore'. James also gave the world premiere of 'Last Words Book Two' (for tenor) a song cycle by his father Timothy Bowers. In June 2013 James achieved the L.R.S.M. in Singing.

As a soloist, James has performed as a guest artist for the Chess Valley Male Voice Choir in Norwich and Lincoln Cathedrals, and on tour in Belgium singing in Ghent and Antwerp Cathedrals.

James has performed for the Malcolm Arnold Festival twice, performing the world premieres of Malcolm Arnold's lost song cycle for tenor and piano 'Contrasts', and singing the role of 'Brèlle & Offstage Tenor' in his lost opera 'Henri Christoph'.

James was the recipient of a choral bursary from the Wimbledon Choral Society under renowned choral conductor Neil Ferris from September 2015 to September 2016. In 2017, James became an Iford Arts New Generation Young Artist for Iford Arts Opera, covering the role of Rodolfo in their production of 'La Bohème'. He sings regularly with Philharmonia Voices under Aidan Oliver and currently studies privately with Anthea Parashchak.
