Puccini- 'o mio babbino caro', LIVE performance
Jennifer Cearns started her musical career at the age of 15, when she gained a place at the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music Junior School to study Voice and Piano. Whilst there, she was the principal soloist in the RNCM Junior Opera, with roles including Carmen (Bizet), Dido (Purcell), Sheherezade (Ravel), and Filipyevna (Tchaikovsky).
Three years later, she gained a Choral Scholarship at Merton College, Oxford, where she sang for a further five years whilst reading for an undergraduate degree in English and Portuguese, and a Masters degree in Social Anthropology. During her time in Oxford she was in wide demand as a soloist across the city for choral and chamber music, recitals and opera. With the Choir of Merton College Oxford, she went on five international tours, recorded five CDs, appeared as a soloist on a live BBC R3 broadcast, and performed in numerous world premieres including Gabriel Jackson’s ‘Passion’ with the choir of Trinity Church, Wall St in New York. She has also appeared on numerous BBC television programmes, including David Starkey's recent series 'Music and Monarchy'.
In 2014 Jennifer moved to London where she is continuing her singing study with Brian Parsons. She is much in demand as a soprano at all of the prominent London churches, as well as for concert and oratorio work with many of the UK's most prestigious consorts and ensembles, and for recitals of lieder and song. She performs repertoire from a wide range of music, from early chant, to renaissance polyphony, Baroque, classical, romantic and modern experimental works.
Recent performances include Tenebrae's CD Launch at St James' Spanish Place in November 2015, and concerts with the Sansara, recent winners of First Prize and Audience Prize in the 2015 London International A Cappella Choir Competition, hosted by St John's Smith Square in association with The Tallis Scholars. She has also worked with Ex Cathedra, Chappelle du Roi, Oxford Voices, Blossom St Singers, Philharmonia Voices, Exaudi, Luminatus and the Sarum Consort, amongst others.
In December 2014 she went on tour with the London Philharmonia to Switzerland to perform excerpts from Handel's Messiah. Other recent solo performances include Haydn's Creation, Mozart's Requiem, Mozart's Coronation Mass, Bach's Magnificat, Vaughan Williams' Mass in G Minor, Haydn's Little Organ Mass and Pergolesi's Stabat Mater.
