Baritone Owain Rowlands and soprano Jessica Hopkins played the roles of two singers who turn up for an audition with Leo. They were deliberately presented as wholesome, young Germans, dressed in traditional costumes, and gave a fresh, playful rendition of the duet “Pa, pa, pa” from “Die Zauberflöte” that charmed the audience.

- Catherine Jordy [www.forumopera.com] (2025)

Lacking any special lighting effects or any other theatrical drama, Emma Bell, Caitlin Mackenzie, Jessica Hopkins and Anusha Merrin came together for a marvellously music and intimate account of the quartet in Act Two. - Robert Hugill [www.planethugill.com] (2025)

- Catherine Jordy [www.forumopera.com] (2025)

Owain Rowlands and Jessica Hopkins give a lovely turn as Papageno and Papagena in the well-known duet from The Magic Flute. - Robert Beale [www.theatrereviewsnorth.com] (2025)

Owain Rowlands and Jessica Hopkins serve up the charm with a duo “audition” of Papageno and Papagena’s Pa-Pa-Pa - Alexandra Coghlan [www.thestage.co.uk] (2025)

Hopkins excelled [as] the young Giulia who, although already married in secret, was in great demand as a prospective wife. With long red hair and elegant clothing Hopkins certainly looked the part. Her attractive voice was steady, strong and projected well. Impressive high notes were matched by her coloratura and together with a natural stage presence her performance made a real impact. - Michael Cookson [seenandheard-international.com] (2024)

Her performances across the season received critical praise, with Olyrix praising her “voix fraîche et bien déployée”, Opera Magazine describing her Thérèse as “vive, agile et bien projetée” and DNA singling out her “sublime” Barbarina.

Recent operatic highlights include First Niece in Britten’s Peter Grimes at Cadogan Hall with British Youth Opera, Nanetta in Verdi’s Falstaff and Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at the St Endellion Festival, and Evie/Beth in Mozart’s The Impresario at Buxton International Festival. On the concert platform, Jessica has appeared as a soloist in repertoire including Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem; Handel’s Messiah, Saul and Samson; Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater; Vivaldi’s Gloria; Rameau’s Les Amants trahis; and Mozart’s Requiem, Great Mass in C Minor, Coronation Mass, Vesperae solennes de confessore and Regina Coeli K108. She made her Wigmore Hall debut in 2024 performing Nico Muhly’s Endless Space, and recently appeared as soprano soloist in Haydn’s Nelson Mass at the Buxton International Festival.

Jessica was named a 2025 James Bowman Young Artist with Vache Baroque and is also a former Buxton International Festival Young Artist. She completed her postgraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music under the tutelage of Mary Plazas, graduating with Distinction and receiving the Frederic Cox Award for Singing, the Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss, and the Clonter Opera Betty Bannerman Award for French Song. Prior to this, Jessica graduated with a Double First from Clare College, University of Cambridge, where she read Music as a choral scholar and was awarded the Donald Wort Prize, the Royalton-Kisch Prize for Music, as well as several academic prizes.
