Opera Festival Scotland Non Professional Singer (2022)
Coloratura soprano Joanne Whalley recently won Opera Festival Scotland's non-professional prize where she sang Berg's "Lied Der Lulu" and Donizetti's "Quel guardo il Cavaliere".
She has just sung the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor and Sandmänchenn for London Euphonia Orchestra in December. She has also sung and covered the roles of Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), Sandmänchenn/Taumann (Hänsel und Gretel), Cousin (Madama Butterfly), Cathleen (Riders to the Sea), Anne (Merry Wives of Windsor) and the title role in Patience.
At Morley College, Joanne performed in excerpts from operas including the title role in Alcina, Princesse (L'enfant et les Sortilèges), Hélène (Une éducation manquée), Soeur Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites) and Poppea (L'incoronazione di Poppea).
Concert work includes soloist for Bradstow Singers and Orchestra for which repertoire included "Der Hölle Rache", and the Halling Chamber Orchestra where she sang "Quando m'en vo" and "Durch Zärtlichkeit und Schmeicheln" (amongst other items).
Future engagements include Barena in Jenůfa for Midsummer Opera in March 2023 and giving the premiere of composer Jacob Bride's song cycle "Songs to Aphrodite" in April 2023 with the Bradstow Chamber Ensemble.
