Bachelors of Music
Guildhall School of Music and Drama
2016–2020

Mezzo-soprano Katie Macdonald has just completed the final year of her Undergraduate Vocal Studies degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under tutelage of Adrian Thompson and Sarah Pring. She will be continuing her studies at Guildhall for her Masters.

Her relationship with singing began at an early age, as a chorister at Wells Cathedral. She then received a scholarship to attend Junior Guildhall. In 2015 she was selected to participate in Glyndebourne Academy- a residential scheme at Glyndebourne for young singers led by renowned vocal coach Mary King.

Whilst attending Guildhall, Katie was a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary Competition for Young Singers, sang chorus for the London Philharmonic's performance of Schoenberg's Gurrelieder, performed as a soloist in "Carols by Candlelight" in St Martin in the Fields, was the participant of two British Youth Opera summer workshops, and also sang chorus in Don Giovanni for British Youth Opera.

Her most recent projects include the role of Nancy (Albert Herring) in a set of opera scenes with director Ella Marchment, the role of Marcellina in GSMD's production of The Marriage of Figaro and performing the role of Sister Agatha in West Green House Opera’s production of Guys and Dolls, alongside the London Philharmonic Orchestra. She was recently the alto soloist for Bach’s Cantata 147a at St John’s Waterloo and Vivaldi’s Gloria at St Marys, Andover.
She has also sung in masterclasses for Roderick Williams and John Graham-Hall.

Aside from performing, Katie has been involved with the Irene Taylor Trust’s Music in Prisons projects and Breathe Arts Health Research, an organization that aims to bring the arts into clinical settings.

Upcoming projects include a recital at Guys Hospital Chapel, London Bridge as part of Breathe Arts Research, Susan Longfield Singing Prize Final and Wigmore Hall’s Voiceworks Project (postponed due to Covid).
