Danish soprano Katrine Deleuran, applauded for her “overpowering… [and] watercoloured” voice, is a freelancing opera singer based in Munich, Germany. Deleuran’s journey into classical music started in her early twenties. During her first years of studying her vocal instrument, she simultaneously discovered all the different assets it takes to become a professional musician.
She is an alumna of the Royal College of Music and the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Previously, Deleuran earned a bachelor’s degree in Musicology with an elective in Gender studies from the University of Copenhagen. At the same time, she studied with the Royal Danish Opera singer Marianne Rørholm at a talent development programme in Copenhagen.
Last year Deleuran represented Denmark as a semifinalist in the Elizabeth Connell Prize – International Singing Competition. In 2024, she competed in the 61st Teñor Viñas Competition in Barcelona, the Stignani Competition and Renate Tebaldi Competition in Italy, and was a finalist in the Tiroler Klassik Sängerpreis in Austria. She also did her first jump-in as Gertrud (Hänsel und Gretel) at Konzert und Theater St. Gallen, a house where she returned in 2025 to sing Die Aufseherin/Vertraute in a new production of Strauss’ Elektra.
During the summer 2024, Katrine worked as an artistic assistant for the VF Academy at the prestigious Verbier Festival. During her stay, she also performed in various concerts and worked with prominent coaches. Deleuran also participated in the first edition of Opern Campus 3303 in Switzerland.
In 2022, Deleuran participated in the Vocal Residency of the Atelier Lyrique opera programme at Verbier Festival and was a Leeds Lieder Festival Young Artist with her duo partner, Aleksandra Myslek.
Starting as a mezzo-soprano, Deleuran’s voice developed into a young dramatic soprano during her master’s studies, as evidenced by her varied repertoire. Deleuran has substantial concert experience in operas/operettas, recitals, and ensembles. Highlights include Nedda (Pagliacci) and Gertrud (Hänsel und Gretel), singing a cabaret soiree at the UNLTD programme at Verbier Festival and singing excerpts of Die Fledermaus on The Operetta Boat around the Copenhagen canals as part of Copenhagen Opera Festival.
Deleuran has worked with prominent opera coaches and singers worldwide, including but not limited to voice performance coach Kirsten Schötteldreier, pianist James Bailieu, Musical Director of the Opera Studio at Bayerische Staatsoper Tobias Truniger, voice professor and Wagnarian tenor Burkhard Fritz, pianist and coach at the Metropolitan Opera Ken Noda, Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, and Italian soprano Barbara Frittoli.
