Leandros Taliotis is an international operatic baritone based in the UK. He has performed extensively in Europe and beyond in opera, oratorio and recital. His warm, lyrical voice with ringing top notes, highly trained musicianship, stagecraft and Mediterranean looks make him a versatile artist whose performances have earned him critical acclaim.
Born and raised in London, Leandros studied Music as a choral scholar at Cambridge University before winning a scholarship to study singing at the Royal College of Music.
He was later invited to join Flanders Opera Studio and during this time performed in recitals and opera scenes in Antwerp, Ghent and Amsterdam and sang the role of Sid in Albert Herring at De Vlaamse Opera, Antwerp, a role that he subsequently sang at the Teatro Rendano, Cosenza, earning praise in the Italian press.
After stepping-in as Belcore in the final dress rehearsals of L’elisir d’amore in Duisburg in February 2008, Leandros was engaged at Deutsche Oper am Rhein for the 2008-2009 season, singing roles in Don Carlos (Flemish Deputy), Rusalka (Hunstsman), Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo (Spirit) and Janacek’s From the House of the Dead (Young Prisoner) in the opera houses of Düsseldorf and Duisburg.
Other engagements have included Zurga The Pearl Fishers (Northampton Festival Opera), Germont La Traviata (Opera Lyrica), Dandini La Cenerentola (OperaFour), Tempter, Herald of Hakon, Welsh Herald The Martyrdom of St. Magnus, Maxwell Davies (Norwegian National Opera/Oslokammermusikk Festival), Semyon The Crocodile (Tête à Tête Festival) Morales and Dancairo Carmen, (Opera à la Carte and Cambridge Philharmonic), Belcore L’elisir d’amore (Vox Lirika Opera), Lockit The Beggar’s Opera arr. Britten (Surrey Opera), Tarquinius The Rape of Lucretia and Adonis The Judgement of Calliope - Henze (Dartington Festival) Lakai Ariadne auf Naxos (Aldeburgh Productions) Papageno Die Zauberflöte (Cambridge Philharmonic), Elviro Xerxes and Junius The Rape of Lucretia (British Youth Opera).
In recent times, as his voice has increased in power and he has become more physically assured, Leandros has begun working on more dramatic repertoire with the guidance of long-term teacher Russell Smythe, most notably some of the more lyrical Verdi roles.
A busy concert schedule has included engagements in Belgium, Holland, Germany, Japan, France, Greece, the Seychelles and throughout the United Kingdom. Highlights include the European premiere of Christos Hatzis Everlasting Light at the Megaron in Athens and the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the world premiere of Will Todd A Song of Creation, Pilatus St John Passion at the Barbican, Beethoven Symphony no.9 at Snape Maltings, Carmina Burana in Antwerp and Ghent, Belshazzar’s Feast in Manchester, Elijah and Das Lied von der Erde in London and recitals at The Forge in London, the Warwick and Leamington Festival and London’s Hellenic centre.
Leandros is also in demand as a singing teacher. He is passionate about vocal repertoire, performing and technique and loves nurturing and mentoring singers, young and old. He has a burgeoning private studio in London and teaches teenage students at independent schools with impressive musical traditions.
