"In the small role of Barbe, Llio Evans may take the runner-up prize in Lord Philip's beauty contest, but her tingly, coppery soprano is the most singularly attractive female voice on offer here." Joanne Sydney Lesser (Opera News Magazine, USA) (2014)
"Llio Evans played an enchanting, self-consciously sexy Yum-Yum, who could probably step into a production at many a posher address." Hugh Canning (Opera) (2014)
Originally from Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, soprano, Llio Evans, gained a first class honours degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama before going on to receive an MA with distinction from the Wales International Academy of Voice.
A winner of numerous awards including Osborne Roberts Memorial Prize, Dame Anne Evans Award, and the Russell Sheppard Intercollegiate Award, Llio is a British Youth Opera and Welsh National Youth Opera alumna and a former Alvarez Young Artist at Garsington Opera where she recently received the Leonard Ingrams Award.
As an Alvarez Young Artist at Garsington Opera she has covered the roles of Despina and Mimi (Vert-Vert, Offenbach). Other roles include Clorinda (HighTime Opera), Blonde (Pop-Up Opera), Yum-Yum, Gretel (Co-Opera Co.), Susanna and Pamina (Opera’r Ddraig). She created the role of The Little One in the UK Premier of The Golden Dragon by Peter Eötvös for Music Theatre Wales. Llio can be heard singing the role of Barbe on Chandos’ studio recording of Arthur Sullivan's, The Beauty Stone, with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, conducted by Rory Macdonald.
Llio is an accomplished recitalist having performed recitals for Garsington Opera, Cardiff Music Festival, Swansea Music Festival, Llandeilo Music Festival and Ensemble Cymru. A regular on the Oratorio platform, Llio recently performed the soprano solo in Handel's Messiah alongside Mark Padmore and the Bristol Ensemble at Colston Hall, Mendelssohnn's Elijah at St John's Smith Square with the Three Choirs Festival and the Philharmonia Orchestra, and Bach's Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht (Coffee Cantata) with Ensemble Cymru. She has also appeared on BBC Radio 3 as the soprano soloist in Arwel Hughes' Gweddi with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes.
In 2017 Llio will return to Garsington Opera to play Iris in Handel's Semele, and revive her performance as the Little One in Music Theatre Wales' production of The Golden Dragon at the Tongyeong International Music Festival in South Korea followed by a UK tour in the Autumn.
