Maria Shapiro was born into a family of musicians in Kiev and grew up in Germany from the age of two. Already as a child she sang as a soloist in the children's choir of the Bonn Opera and later studied singing in Cologne and Tel Aviv with Ingeborg Greiner & Prof. Tamar Rachum. Numerous master classes with Inessa Galante, Prof. Kleie Kelly- Moog & Prof. Thomas Heyer completed her education. The lyrical coloratura soprano has a broad concert and oratorio repertoire. In opera performances she has already shone as Cleopatra in Handel's Guilio Cesare and as Queen of the Night in Mozart's Magic Flute. She is currently supported in her further vocal development by Judith Lindenbaum.
Maria Shapiro holds a B.A. in History and Musicology and an M.A. in Peace Research and Mediation from the Universities of Cologne and Tel Aviv.
