Portuguese soprano Mariana Fernandes is an emerging talent whose performances are already attracting critical attention for their vocal strength and expressive nuance. Recently graduated from the Opera Course at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (2023–2025), she also holds a Master of Performance with Distinction (2020–2022) and a Bachelor of Music with Honours (2016–2020) from Guildhall. Her early studies were at the Escola Artística de Música do Conservatório Nacional in Lisbon.
In 2025, Mariana joined Glyndebourne Opera as a Jerwood Young Artist, performing in the chorus of Parsifal, Saul, Falstaff, and Kat’a Kabanova as part of the Glyndebourne Festival, and i returning in the Autumn covering the role of Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and.
Her recent stage roles include Aunt Norris (Mansfield Park), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Mabel (The Casserole), and Suor Dolcina (Suor Angelica), performed with Guildhall Opera and West Green House Opera.
Her portrayal of Rosalinde drew strong praise from critics:

Other operatic highlights include Jody in Jeremy Fisher (OperaFest Lisboa), Contessa Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro), and cover roles such as Angèle (Der Zar lässt sich photographieren). She also performed Nedda in scenes from Pagliacciat West Green House Opera.
An accomplished concert artist, Mariana has appeared as a soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at St. Giles Cripplegate and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at Romsey Abbey. In 2025, she was featured as a Jerwood Young Artist soloistat Brighton Dome, and has previously performed at Wigmore Hall, both in the Voiceworks series and as a finalist in the 69th Kathleen Ferrier Awards.
She is the winner of the 2024 Susan Longfield Award and the Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors Vocal Prize, and was a finalist in both the Concurso Internacional de Canto Lírico de Lousada and the Fundação Rotária Portuguesa's national vocal competition.
Her operatic scene work includes roles such as Magda (La Rondine), Arabella (Arabella), Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Mimì (La Bohème), Micaëla (Carmen), Suor Angelica, and Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte).
With a voice described as “powerful,” “nuanced,” and “multi-faceted,” Mariana Fernandes continues to make a compelling impression on both operatic and concert stages across the UK and Europe.
