"You have a wonderfully expressive voice, colourful and a gorgeous sound." Andrew West (German Lieder Competition Adjudicator) (2017)
"Der Engel; This was a stylish and committed opening, showing a fine 'helden' ring and a sweeping sense of line. Im Treibhaus showed excellent ability to grade and colour tone. Pitching was exact and German diction used to excellent rhythmic effect. A strong sense of the drama was conveyed. Schmerzen was delivered with authority and was fully engaging. The dynamic range was impressive and ability to find the steely tone always controlled." LTCL examiner's comments. (2016)
"Bright and exciting high notes and idiomatic French vowels gave the aria real 'steel'.” David Kirby-Ashmore (compeition examiner Blackheath Music Festival 2012) (2012)
Born in Hemel Hempstead, Marrianne studied Classics at Kings College London graduating with a BA Hons first class degree after spending her final year at the University of Bologna. She went on to a successful marketing career, as a Marketing Communications Manager, working in retail and the public sector. Then, one day in 2007 she had her first singing lesson and in 2008 sang solo for the first time at a master class with Ameral Gunson - and she hasn’t looked back since.
Marrianne decided in 2015 it was time to step away from her marketing career to focus on singing. She was accepted into Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance to begin her singing studies with the Independent Study Programme Advanced. She passed the LTCL singing diploma in July 2016, before completing the Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in July 2017, both with distinction.
Marrianne has performed in many recitals, masterclasses and competitions whilst studying at Trinity and was semi-finalist in the Soloist’s Competition in January 2017. She has given a lecture recital on the first Brünnhilde of Bayreuth: Amalia Materna. She was delighted to be chosen to sing in Graz in a masterclass with Christa Ludwig in September 2018.
Marrianne has undertaken various roles in staged scenes at Trinity Laban Conservatoire including Ariadne, Ariadne auf Naxos, Die Hexe, Hänsel und Gretel, Donna Elivira, Don Giovanni and Lady Billows, Albert Herring; taking great pleasure working with directors such as Christopher Lane, Julia Hollander, Stuart Barker and James Hurley. She has also performed many other roles at AIMS and City Lit Opera Schools working with Danny Dooner and John Ramster, and has appeared as chorus with Blackheath Halls Community Opera productions in Verdi’s Macbeth, Rossini’s Le Conte d’Ory (Soprano chorus principal and semi chorus), Krasa’s Brundibar and Britten’s Noye’s Fludde where she also performed as one of the Gossips both in the 2016 and the revival performances in April 2018. She loved performing the role of the Witch in Opera in the Meantime’s production of Hansel and Gretel in August 2018 and was delighted to reprise the role and debuted Getrude in December 2019. Also in 2019 she covered the role of Maddalena in Midsummer Opera's production of Andrea Chenier at the end of March 2019, and had three performances at the Mediterranean Opera Studio in Sicily in July 2019 in Don Giovanni as Donna Anna. In November 2019 she covered the role of Madeleine Lidoine for their production of Les Dialogues des Carmelites. She performed her first Verdi and Brahm's Requiems in January 2020 conducted by Peter Fender. Since Covid 19 she has been working online with some amazing International Artists and continues to work on her technique and is hopeful of future work as a singer.
