The tenor Matthew Curtis (Mirko) is one role away from launching a major career. His is a quality instrument—plenty of power and blade, but also a baritonal breadth and warmth through the middle of the voice-and one with no shortage of endurance. OPERA MAGAZINE June (2026)
"BEST OF ALL was Matthew Curtis's ringing Lensky, ONE OF THE MOST MOVINGLY SUNG I HAVE HEARD IN RECENT YEARS, especially in the Dual Scene solo." (2024)

London-based British tenor Matthew Curtis has performed with Glyndebourne, Nevill Holt Opera, Devon Opera, IF Opera, Opera North, the Buxton International Festival, British Youth Opera and The Opera Makers. Praised by Opera Magazine as possessing "a quality instrument" with "plenty of power and blade...with no shortage of endurance", Matthew is rapidly establishing himself as one of Britain's most exciting young dramatic tenors.
His recent roles include Don José in Carmen with Devon Opera, Mirko in Augusta Holmès's La Montagne Noire with The Opera Makers in London, and a critically acclaimed Lensky in Eugene Onegin at the Reform Club and with Hampstead Garden Opera, whose OffWestEnd Award-winning production saw Hugh Canning hail his performance as "one of the most movingly sung" Lenskys he had heard in recent years. Matthew was a finalist in the Belvedere Singing Competition and a semi-finalist in the Premier Opera Foundation Competition in New York and the Paris Opera Competition. He was also a Young Artist with Opera Prelude (2025–2026). He holds a Master's degree from the Royal College of Music and an undergraduate degree from the Royal Northern College of Music.
