British tenor Matthew Curtis is quickly gaining recognition for his expressive performances and lyrical tone. A 2025 semifinalist in the prestigious Paris Opera Competition, Matthew is currently supported by Opera Prelude as a Young Artist, where he recently presented The Tenor—a lecture-recital featuring arias from Tosca, Madama Butterfly, L’elisir d’amore, and Eugene Onegin.

In November 2024, Matthew performed the role of Lensky in Hampstead Garden Opera’s production of Eugene Onegin, which was awarded an Offie for Best Opera Performance: Cast and Orchestra. Other highlights include Fintan O’Riordan in Bloody Murder for Opera Workshop Limerick, Bill in Flight with the Royal College of Music Opera Studio, and The Pilgrim’s Progress with British Youth Opera at the Three Choirs Festival.

Matthew joined the Glyndebourne Chorus for their 2023 Autumn season, singing in Don Giovanni and L’elisir d’amore. He has also performed with Nevill Holt Opera in La Cenerentola, and with IF Opera in Dido and Aeneas and La Rondine. Additional chorus work includes Silent Night with Opera North and Eugene Onegin at Buxton International Opera Festival.

He is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and holds a Master’s degree from the Royal College of Music. In summer 2025, Matthew will perform as Nemorino and cover Lensky for Wild Arts.
