Matteo Placidi

BMus(Hons) Classical Tenor
Guildhall School of Music & Drama
2012–2018

British-Italian tenor Matteo Placidi joins the Cheltenham Choral Society for Mozart's Requiem and Haydn's Theresienmesse. He is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and aspiring Young Artist recently debuting with If Opera performing the role of Gobin for a production of La Rondine (Puccini).

Matteo has performed in venues across London including the Barbican, Cadogan Hall, St Martin in the Fields and Southwark Cathedral. During his studies he performed the role of Remendado in Carmen (Bizet) and The Schoolmaster in an English translation of The Cunning Little Vixen (Janáček). He was also involved with the Guildhalls Opera department for productions of Iolanta (Tchaikovsky), The Dialogue of the Carmelites (Poulenc) and a World Premiere of The Tale of Januarie (Julian Philips).

This year Matteo plans to initiate performance opportunities in Dorset, his home county, through the celebration of late romantic music including works that accompany the poetry of Thomas Hardy and William Barnes. He has curated a series of recitals that coincide with the changing seasons and is planning to release tickets to start off the series this coming Autumn.

He has planned trips to Italy, France and Germany in 2024 to develop his language skills and is keen to curate recitals of a similar nature in all of the respective languages.
