Matthew Scott Clark - tenor

Matthew is an English tenor from Brighton, UK, and alumnus of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, taught by late baritone Eric Roberts and tenor Adrian Thompson.

His strength lies in the character roles, encompassing everything from Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro and Knusperhexe in Hänsel und Gretel (Westminster Opera at the Chateau d'Panloy, France), to roles in Gilbert and Sullivan operetta (Tarantara Productions) and Georg Dibdin in Marschner’s Der Vampyr (Gothic Opera), highlighting his skills in acting with a flare for comic timing.

His versatility as a singer however has allowed him the ability to tackle lyrical and dramatic roles, as Don José in Carmen (Opera South East), the title role in Gounod's Faust (New Sussex Opera), and Albéric in Louise Bertin’s Le Loup-Garou (Gothic Opera).

His range in performance has also enabled him to branch into modern and contemporary works, as Teddy Deakin in Paul Crabtree’s The Ghost Train (World Premier for The Assembly Project and St Magnus Festival, Orkney), and Mercury/Giles Smoothly in Roger Simmond’s political satire @emele (World Premier for Oxfordshire Contemporary Opera).

These days Matthew divides his time between his hometown of Brighton and the many opportunities in London and elsewhere.

He also enjoys acting for film, and writing.
