Praised by Opera Magazine for his Scarpia, Welsh opera singer Matthew Tilley trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, whilst studying privately with David Kempster. In 2019 he completed a Master of Music degree at Bath Spa University graduating with distinction.

Operatic roles include Scarpia Tosca, Figaro and Conte Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro, Donner Das Rheingold, Escamillo Carmen, Alfio Cavalleria Rusticana, Ferrando Il Trovatore, Colline and Schaunard La Boheme, Silvio and Tonio i Pagliacci, Marchese and Il Barone La Traviata, Don Giovanni and Masetto Don Giovanni and Alessio La Sonnambula. Matthew has performed at Longborough Festival Opera, Opera Holland Park, Welsh National Opera, Mid Wales Opera, Heritage Opera, Carmina Priapea, Random Opera, Opera Serse, Tarnhelm Opera and the BBC recorded Götterdämmerung at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival.

Matthew is also an established teacher and has given masterclasses at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Allegro Music and arts and Bentley Music Academy. He has also taught extensively throughout the UK and Asia and is Patron of Musical Youth Theatre Wales.
