Noriko Yakushiji was born in Tokyo. When she was three years old,
she started to play the violin. She encountered an opportunity to take
a singing lesson at the age of 16. Then, she decided to major in
classical music after high school.
She graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, and studied in
Belgium with a grant from the Belgian government. She finished the
Master's program of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, studying
under Marianne Pousseur, with a scholarship from the Nomura
Foundation. She was a laureate of the 2014 Concours des Nouveaux Talents de l'Art Lyrique in Ans.
In 2013, she played the lead role in Ravel's "L'enfant et les sortilèges" at the Royal Opera of Liège.
Later that year, she performed the soprano solo in Vivaldi's "Gloria", and took part in a performance
of Villa-Lobos's "Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5" with 8 cellos, in Brussels and Paris.
In the summer of 2014, she performed on the stage of the International Festival of the Minims in
Brussels and Antwerp. The programme consisted of works by Webern, Schubert, and Pousseur. Her
main interest lies in contemporary music; at the Belgian Festival of Contemporary Music "Ars
Musica", she performed work by Ictus's Jean-Luc Fafchamps. She also performed at the Sirga
international contemporary music festival in Spain.
In 2016, she was involved in the concert commemorating the 150th anniversary of diplomatic
relations between Japan and Italy, where she performed a specially commissioned piece by Hidehiko
Hinohara. She also organized the concert on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of diplomatic
relations between Japan and Belgium, in Tokyo, where she premiered pieces by Claude Ledoux,
Ittetsu Shimizu and Oumi Norihiko.
Besides that, she sang the Paedrus role in Eric Satie's “Socrate”, and also performed at the
Japanese premiere of “Rara film” by Sylvano Busotti, among several other concerts around Europe
and Japan.
She participated in several masterclasses organized by people such as Peggy Bouvelet, Zeger
Vandersteene, Donatienne Michel-Dansac (Darmstadt International Summer Course for New Music),
Lavinia Bertotti (Urbino early music) , Petra Hoffmann and Andreas Fischer (Impuls contemporary music academy)
