Covered Covered & Performed Scenes Premiere of New Work Concert
Originally from Scotland, soprano Rachel Speirs is a recent graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music where she studied with Deborah Rees.
In her formative years, Rachel sang in the National Youth Choirs of Scotland where she featured as a soloist on their CD recording of Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols. Rachel then attended the Junior Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where she won the Junior Cup for Opera. While at the RNCM, Rachel performed the roles of 2nd Spirit and 2nd Lady in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), Mustardseed in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Britten), and Mary Hildebrand in Street Scene (Kurt Weill) as well as Rose in Lakmé (Delibes) for RNCM Opera Excerpts. She also performed in the choruses of Savitri (Holst), Cosi fan Tutte (Mozart), and The Merry Widow (Lehar). Rachel has enjoyed taking part in masterclasses with renowned artists such as Malcolm Martineau, Joan Rodgers, Susan Bullock, and Julius Drake and was delighted to join the RNCM Songsters programme in 2016. This summer Rachel is looking forward to covering the roles of Pamina and Papagena for Vivo D’Arte’s production of the Magic Flute as well as playing the role of Monica in Menotti’s The Medium at Oxenfoord International Summer School.
