“All her songs had a light and natural flow, but it was Gweddi y Pechadur (Prayer of the Sinner), a Welsh favourite, which came over most effectively in tenor Rhys Meilyr Jones’s rendering…” - The Guardian (2021)
Rhys Meilyr, 25, from Anglesey, North Wales, has recently graduated with a ‘First Class Honours’ at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He is currently studying his master of arts at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
He represented RWCMD at a private function for Prince Charles, performing in Rossini’s ‘La Cenerentola’, ‘The Gondoliers’ by G&S and had the privilege of representing them at the Junior Kathleen Ferrier competition. His final performance as an Undergraduate was at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 50th anniversary of investiture of HRH Prince Charles amongst The Royal Family and other distinguished guests.
Rhys has recorded two successful solo albums as a treble and is the Welsh voice of ‘Noddy.’ Rhys’ involvement with ‘Only Boys Aloud’ has given him the opportunity to perform at Wigmore Hall (London), Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s visit to Cardiff and the Celtic Festival, Lorient (France). In addition, Rhys was very fortunate to make his principle debut with Welsh National Opera as the ‘Younger Brother’ in ‘Dead Man Walking’ by Jake Heggie. His recent performances since the pandemic includes playing the role of Aeneas in ‘Dido & Aeneas’ by Purcell, and being part of the trio in ‘Trouble in Tahiti’ by Bernstein.
