Sam Leggett is an English tenor and conductor based in London. He began singing in 2002 with the renowned boys’ choir Libera, in albums, on television and on worldwide tours. He went on to read music at Bristol University, where he studied singing with Angela Hickey (Chair of the Association of Teachers of Singing) and conducted the chamber choir.
Sam made his professional operatic debut creating the role of Lord Alfred Douglas in 1936: Fishing by Robert Ely. His previous roles include Edward Ferrars Sense and Sensibility, Count Almaviva The Barber of Seville (Tessitoura); Le Remendado Carmen (Bristol Opera); Ferrando Cosi Fan Tutte (LoveOpera); Adolfo Pirelli Sweeney Todd and Lord Tolloller Iolanthe (Bristol University), and scenes from Albert Herring, L’Elisir d’amore, Idomeneo, Die Fledermaus, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Le Nozze di Figaro. He has appeared as a soloist with London City Orchestra, Woking Choral Society, London Welsh Chorale, Epiphoni Consort, Shoreham Oratorio Choir, Saint Richard Singers, and Stroud Choral Society.
An accomplished choral singer, Sam has held back-row roles at Bristol Cathedral, Bath Abbey, and Chichester Cathedral, highlights of which include singing on tours to Europe, on BBC Live Choral Evensong, on the album Lest we Forget (Signum), and in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Marin Alsop. He is also a graduate of Genesis Sixteen, St Martin’s Voices Fellowship, and the Dunedin Consort’s Bridging the Gap scheme.
Sam recently completed his master’s degree in Vocal Performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Scott Johnson. He can be seen regularly in and around London singing in and directing choirs, operas and musicals, with forthcoming appearances in Tristan und Isolde (Grange Park Opera), Brontё: The Opera (Grimeborn) and Elena e Gerardo (Random Opera).
