Covered Covered & Performed Scenes Premiere of New Work Concert
Sam Leggett began singing in 2002 with the renowned boys’ choir Libera, in albums, on television and on worldwide tours. He read music at Bristol University, during which he studied singing with Angela Hickey (Chair of the Association of Teachers of Singing) and conducting with Jonathan James.
In 2015, Sam was accepted into Genesis Sixteen, a prestigious training course run by Harry Christophers CBE to nurture the next generation of professional ensemble singers. He was awarded a scholarship during this year to conduct Bristol University Chamber Choir, a highlight of which was directing a performance of Schubert’s Mass No. 1, both at St George’s Bristol and on tour in Prague. He is a versatile vocal coach for the stage, having served as chorus master for The Marriage of Figaro and Sweeney Todd, and as vocal director for the pantomime Snow White.
Sam’s operatic roles include Lord Tolloller Iolanthe and Adolfo Pirelli Sweeney Todd (Bristol University Operatic Society), Le Remendado Carmen (Bristol Opera), Ferrando Cosi Fan Tutte (LoveOpera) and Count Almaviva The Barber of Seville (Tessitoura). He has appeared as a soloist with Shoreham Oratorio Choir, Saint Richard Singers, Stroud Choral Society, Bath Abbey Choir, the University of the West of England Chamber Choir, and Bristol University Singers, and featured with conductors such as Marin Alsop, Magnus Lindberg and James Macmillan.
Sam has held choral scholarships at Bristol Cathedral and Bath Abbey, and since September 2017 has sung in the choir of Chichester Cathedral, with recent highlights including singing on the album Lest we Forget with Signum Records, and a performance of Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Sam continues to sing regularly with the Chamber Choir of London under Dominic Ellis-Peckham, and echo, an upcoming ensemble directed by Sarah Latto, with whom he has enjoyed a number of successful appearances in such events as the Sixteen’s Sounds Sublime and the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s Debut Sounds festival. He is looking forward to beginning his further studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in September.
