Tom is a 24 year old tenor, Alvarez Emerging Artist at Garsington Opera (2025), and a John Nickson & Simon Rew Scholar in memory of Sir Peter Jonas supported by the Geoffrey Boyes Memorial Scholarship, currently studying towards his Masters in Vocal and Operatic Performance at the Royal College of Music with Timothy Evans-Jones and Gary Matthewman. Tom previously graduated with first-class honours from the Royal College of Music's BMus course, being awarded the Poppy Holden Award and receiving the highest vocal mark. Previous roles include the Angel (The Acts of Brizida Vaz - Tête à Tête Opera), Bayard Taylor (Barnum's Bird - RCM International Opera Studio) and learning covers for La Théière (L'enfant et les Sortilèges - RCM International Opera Studio), Il Buffone (La Bella Dormente nel Bosco - RCM International Opera Studio) and chorus roles in L'Elisir d'Amore (Garsington Opera), Fidelio (Garsington Opera), the Marriage of Figaro (RCM Opera Studio), L'Enfant et les Sortileges (RCM Opera Studio), La Bella Dormente nel Bosco (RCM Opera Studio) and Barnum's Bird (RCM Opera Studio). Tom has already performed widely in both the oratorio and choral genres, singing tenor soloist in Handel's 'Messiah' with Portsmouth Cathedral (2022), Mozart's 'Mass in C Minor' and Haydn's 'Nelson Mass' with the Buckingham Choral Society (2023) and being contracted to perform Stainer's 'Crucifixion' with the Royal Society of Church Music in 2020, which was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19. On top of this, Tom has been employed to record a set of 4 oratorios by Andrew Downes (1950-2023) with the Philharmonia Voices (directed by Aidan Oliver and Ben Parry) and Philharmonia Orchestra in Alexandra Palace, taken part in the Facade Ensemble's (directed by Benedict Collins-Rice) Easter Tour, performing in Ely and St Edmundsbury Cathedrals, and worked with a collection of the finest London choirs (St Paul's Knightsbridge, Southwark Cathedral etc.) as a deputy, showcasing outstanding musical literacy.
Tom's passions lie beyond just performing, working extensively as a teacher across multiple London boroughs with prior experience supporting students with additional needs towards musical performances. Tom worked at Portsmouth Cathedral and Portsmouth Grammar School as a choral scholar and teaching assistant in 2019/2020, and has since worked as an assistant with the Tri-borough Music Hub based in South West London, aiding learners towards concerts at the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. Tom balances these commitments with a roster of private students spanning all ages in London, and works/offers regular tuition in the SW13 postcode. In his spare time, Tom is a keen cricketer, chess fanatic and loves spending time in the great outdoors rock climbing and hiking.
