William Kyle is a British/Irish baritone currently based in Manchester. Highlights from his 23/24 season include singing Taddeo in the Wexford Factory production of L’Italiana in Algeri and joining Rogue Opera Company as the bass soloist for their Christmas Tour.
In the 2024/25 season he will be returning to Wexford Festival Opera to sing the role of Poeta in Donizetti’s Le convenienze ed inconvenienze teatrali. He will also be appearing as the soloist for Vaughan-Williams’ A Fantasia on Christmas Carols with the Huddersfield Choral Society.
Previously, William has performed as Don Alvaro in the Rossini Opera Festival young artist (L’Accademia Rossiniana “Alberto Zedda”) production of Il viaggio a Reims, and as Page in British Youth Opera’s production of Sir John in Love. He was an Associate Artist with Nevill Holt Opera in 2022 and 2023 and performed the roles of Un ufficiale in Il barbiere di Siviglia and Il Doganiere in La bohème.
He created the role of Billy in Merry Opera Company’s touring production entitled Cinderella 23 and the role of Acrobat 2 in Conor Mitchell’s Les Selenites at the Wexford Opera Festival.
William is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, and whilst there he performed numerous roles including Il Conte in Le nozze di Figaro, Ein Musiklehrer in Ariadne auf Naxos and Harašta in The Cunning Little Vixen. At the RNCM he was a finalist in the Frederic Cox award for Singing and highly commended in the Alexander Young Prize, the James Oncken Prize, and the Elsie Thurston Prize.
He was a member of the acting chorus for Opera North’s production of Silent Night by Kevin Puts and a member of the chorus of Don Giovanni at the Salzburg Festival. He will make his debut with Irish National Opera as member of the chorus for their production of Rigoletto this autumn.
William is an experienced oratorio soloist and won the 2023 Oratorio prize at the David Clover young singer’s Platform. His concert highlights include singing Peter in a semi-staged production of Bach’s St John Passion with Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Messiah with Nevill Holt Opera in collaboration with Manchester Camerata and Brahms’ Requiem with Kantos Chamber Choir.
William has also done choral singing at the highest level. He is a long-standing member of Kantos Chamber Choir and was a member of Utopia Choir for their performance of the St Matthew Passion, which opened the 2024 Salzburg Festival. He also performed Per Nørgård’s Symphony No. 3 at the BBC Proms with the National Youth Chamber Choir in collaboration with London Voices.
