Swedish mezzo-soprano Ylva Gruen is about to finish her master’s degree in opera at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki. In January 2018 she made her debut at the Finnish National Opera, as Kate Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Other roles on her CV are for example Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro and Hermia in A Midsummer night’s dream. Gruen’s repertoire spans from early baroque to contemporary music; with her interest in the latter having led to many collaborations with young composers and world premieres of both operas and concert pieces. Gruen regularly gives recitals, and has appeared as a soloist with, among others, the Finnish Baroque Orchestra and Tapiola Sinfonietta.
