Swedish mezzo-soprano Ylva Gruen holds a Master’s Degree in Opera from the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki. In January 2018 she made her debut at the Finnish National Opera, as Kate Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. In the summer of 2019 she joins the Garsington Opera in UK as one of their Alvarez Young Artists. Roles on her CV inlcude Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro and Hermia in A Midsummer night’s dream. Gruen’s repertoire spans from early baroque to contemporary music; with her interest in the latter having led to many collaborations with young composers and world premieres of both operas and concert pieces. Gruen regularly gives recitals, and has appeared as a soloist with, among others, the Finnish Baroque Orchestra, Tampere Chamber Orchestra and Tapiola Sinfonietta.
