Soprano Zoe Drummond completed a Bachelor of Music Performance with First Class Honours at The Sydney Conservatorium of Music in Australia.
Zoe has been a Melba Opera Trust Scholar for three years, as a proud recipient of the 2015 RJ Hamer Opera Scholarship, the 2016 and the 2017 Dame Nellie Melba Scholarship and Patrick & Vivian Gordon Award. As nominated by the Trust, Zoe was awarded The Sydney Opera House Opera Award- granting her the opportunity to work with internationally acclaimed soprano, Renee Fleming.
Zoe was thrilled to make her Opera Australia debut last year in The Eighth Wonder as principal roles- Clare Goldring, Architects Daughter and Socialite. The production received rave reviews, and she was said to have portrayed multiple characters with ‘impressive ease’. Currently, Zoe is covering the lead role of Giroflé/Girofla in a fun new production with Opera Australia: Two Weddings, One Bride. She had the exciting opportunity of stepping on stage at short notice and performing the role numerous times in the first season.
Zoe enjoyed performing in the chorus of Opera Australia’s 2017 summer season of La bohème, King Roger and Cavalleria Rusticana/ Pagliacci, and the 2017 winter season of Thaïs, Parsifal, Verdi Requiem and The Nixon Tapes.
In 2016, Zoe was selected as a finalist in nearly all of Australia's most prestigious singing competitions. Zoe won the Opera Foundation for Young Australians Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship, which will see her on a study trip to New York at the end of this year. Her performance was described as 'warm and rich… with technical maturity', that displayed an 'emotional connection to raise a tear in the eyes of the audience'.
Additionally, Zoe won second prize in the 2016 Mietta Song Competition, the 2016 Megan Evans OAM Encouragement Award from the Joan Sutherland/Richard Bonynge Foundation and the AOAC Judith Ward Lieder Prize at the semi-finals of the IFAC Australian Singing Competition.
Operatic highlights include the Nightingale in Respighi’s Sleeping Beauty (Victorian Opera), Giannetta in Donizetti’s L’elisir D’amore (Western Sydney Opera); Monica in Menotti’s The Medium (Opera Prometheus); Papagena in Mozart’s The Magic Flute (Pacific Opera); ‘Flora’ (cover) in Britten’s The Turn Of The Screw (Victorian Opera); and ‘Lucy’ in Menotti’s The Telephone (Penrith Symphony Orchestra).
Zoe has performed extensively as a soprano soloist: in Mendelssohn’s Elijah; Gounod’s St Cecilia Mass; Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem; Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Vespers K339, Exsultate Jubilate; Haydn’s Theresa Mass; Schubert’s Magnificat; Mahler’s 4th Symphony; Handel’s Messiah; and Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb.
Zoe performs regularly with The Seven Sopranos- including fashion festivals for Audi in Singapore and Naersi in China; Bravo Cruise of the Performing Arts; IGA Lord Mayors Christmas Carols Brisbane; and the original cast production of ‘Reverie’ directed by Stuart Maunder. Zoe features on their new album ‘Popcorn: Songs of Stage and Screen’.
At the end of this year, Zoe is incredibly excited to commence study at the prestigious Opera Studio at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama on full scholarship.
