British baritone Joshua Lane is a recent graduate of the postgraduate diploma and masters at the RNCM where he studied under the tutelage of Matthew Best. He has recently performed as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro for The International Bel Canto Academy as well as Baron Douphol in La Traviata with Instant Opera. He looks forward to making covering Gesler in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell for and singing as part of the chorus for Nouvel Opéra Fribourg later this year.

Last year he sang Elviro in Handel’s Serse and covered Guglielmo with a run in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte with Chicago Summer Opera. At RNCM he has performed as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Olin Blitch in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah , Edmund Bertram in Jonathon Dove’s Mansfield park and Le Dancaïre in Carmen for Opera scenes. Joshua has taken part in multiple residencies with Opera North working with Laurence Cummings, Antony Hermus and Annabel Arden and was previously a young artist for Southwell Music Festival.

Before his time at RNCM Joshua graduated from Newcastle University with a BA(Hons) in Music. At Newcastle he made his vocal debut as Count Henri de Bouvray in Victor Herbert’s MMLE. Modiste with Newcastle University Opera and was also elected President of the university Jazz Orchestra.

After graduating from Newcastle Joshua worked in corporate fundraising for major arts organisation in London, including the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also sung with award winning chamber choir Coro, directed by Mark Griffiths, where he has been featured as the baritone soloist. Whilst working in London he studied with Mark Wildman and Marcus Farnsworth.

Joshua is extremely grateful for the generous support of the The Wayne Sleep Foundation, Alice Orrell and A&N Kendall Award, Francis Higgins Bursary, Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust and the Sir Richard Stapley Education Trust during his studies.
